We’re delighted to celebrate our continued collaboration with Learn Devon in creating Easy Read guides for our latest exhibition at Harbour House, Mud Makes The Revivalists by Tom Kaniok.

As with each exhibition, the guides have been created by a wonderful group of adult learners with learning disabilities and differences. We began by sharing information from the curators about the artist and the exhibition, introducing key ideas before moving into focused workshop activities.

The group visited the exhibition before it opened to the public, giving them a special preview. During this visit, we carried out a drawing activity and worked together to select and allocate images of artworks to include in the Easy Read guide.

Across the sessions, the learners explored the artworks in depth, including taking part in an exhibition scavenger hunt to find objects and details within the works. These activities encouraged close looking, discussion, and personal responses, which helped shape the clear, accessible interpretations in the guide.

This collaboration continues to be a meaningful part of our commitment to inclusivity. At Harbour House, we believe that art should be open, welcoming, and understandable to everyone, and these guides play a vital role in supporting that aim.

'All of the artworks are my favourite!'
