We’re thrilled to highlight our ongoing partnership with Learn Devon, an accessible adult and community learning service, in the creation of Easy Read guides for our exhibitions at Harbour House.
These guides are thoughtfully produced by a group of adult learners with learning disabilities and differences. Through a series of sessions, the learners engage deeply with each exhibition—first by exploring the artworks, then visiting the gallery to speak directly with our curatorial team about the artists and the themes behind the work.
This collaboration is a meaningful step in our commitment to inclusivity. At Harbour House, we believe that art should be accessible to everyone, and these Easy Read guides help ensure that our exhibitions are welcoming and understandable for all visitors.
You can pick up a copy of the Easy Read guide at the gallery front desk, or follow this link.
What participants had to say:
“I like the paintings.”
“Seeing the small pictures, you couldn’t see much, but being on the big wall was great.”
“Paintings are really big. I have never seen such big paintings as big as that before.”
We’re incredibly grateful to our partners at Learn Devon and to the brilliant group of learners who contributed their insights and creativity. We look forward to continuing this collaboration to make our exhibitions and events as inclusive and accessible as possible.
