We’re delighted to celebrate our continued collaboration with Learn Devon in creating Easy Read guides for our latest exhibition at Harbour House, Ashanti Hare: The Fullness Between Shadows.
As with each exhibition, the guides have been created by a wonderful group of adult learners with learning disabilities and differences. Over several sessions, the learners explored the artworks in depth, beginning with classroom activities before visiting the gallery for a dedicated tour with our curatorial team.
During the visit, our curators took the group around the exhibition, talking through the artist’s inspiration behind the work and sharing thoughts on the pieces- what stood out to us, what they might represent, and how they made us feel. These conversations encouraged the learners to reflect on their own responses, helping shape the clear, accessible interpretations that form the Easy Read guide.
This collaboration continues to be a meaningful part of our commitment to inclusivity. At Harbour House, we believe that art should be open, welcoming, and understandable to everyone, and these guides play a vital role in supporting that aim.
You can pick up your Easy Read guide at the front desk, or follow this link to view it online.

We’re deeply grateful to our partners at Learn Devon and to the brilliant group of learners who bring such insight, curiosity, and creativity to this project. We look forward to continuing this collaboration to make all our exhibitions and events as inclusive and accessible as possible.
