A Creative and Joyful Summer Holiday Club
This summer, Harbour House and the Kingsbridge Food Bank teamed up once again to run a week of creativity, movement, and community for local families. School holidays can be challenging, with free meals and childcare less available, so this club offered both fun activities and daily nutritious food.
Over the week, 17 children aged 8–12 took part. Many were returning from our Easter club, while others were referred by Kingsbridge Primary School and the Food Bank. All were children who could benefit from extra support — and their energy, imagination, and enthusiasm made the week unforgettable.
Art and Movement
Mornings were led by artist Ben Sanderson, who explored the theme of birds. Children experimented with different materials, and even helped Ben decorate the Gallery for his exhibition Lilies and Illusions.
Afternoons were filled with movement led by Carly Seller — from group games to paired challenges — building confidence, teamwork, and plenty of laughter.
Food and Care
Thanks to the Food Bank volunteers, children enjoyed breakfasts, snacks, drinks, and lunches every day. Behind the scenes, the project was overseen by our amazing Assistant Producer Charlotte.
Impact
By the end of the week, children were more confident, relaxed, and joyful. Parents told us they noticed boosts in happiness and self-esteem, and the children themselves spoke about making new friends, learning new skills, and feeling proud of their achievements.
This project reflects the shared aims of both Harbour House and the Kingsbridge Food Bank: tackling food poverty, reducing isolation, and promoting creativity and wellbeing.
Most of all, it showed the power of community — children supporting each other, families feeling seen and supported, and a gallery filled with colour, movement, and joy.
Here’s to many more weeks like this!
