Over spring term 2026, Co-motion after-school movement club at Kingsbridge Community Primary brought together a wonderful group of young people each week to explore movement, stage combat, contemporary dance, and theatre-making with lead practitioner Charlie Cornforth from Crumbling Rocks Theatre.

The sessions were developed in response to the school’s wish to nurture greater tolerance, understanding, and celebration of diverse gender identities and sexualities. Through creative movement, collaborative games, and performance-making, participants were encouraged to connect with one another, share their own experiences, and explore identity in a supportive and imaginative environment.

Across the term, the group built confidence, creativity, and stronger social connections. Participants worked together through storytelling, devised scenes, and physical exercises that encouraged self-expression, teamwork, and joy. As the weeks progressed, children became more confident in sharing their feelings, engaging with others, and embracing new creative challenges.

In the second half of term, the group collaborated to create an original performance, Stories of Our Lives, celebrating identity, individuality, and their hopes for the future. The project culminated in a final sharing for parents at Harbour House gallery, attended by 37 people.

This project has been a meaningful part of our commitment to creating inclusive cultural opportunities for young people. Through movement and creativity, Co-motion has supported participants to celebrate difference, develop confidence, and discover new ways to connect with themselves and others.
