Introducing Our New Cafe Gallery: Supporting Local Emerging Artists

We’re thrilled to launch our Cafe Gallery at Harbour House, in partnership with our café, Harbour House Kitchen. This new initiative gives emerging artists from local colleges and universities the chance to exhibit their work in a professional public setting.

We’ll be working with students from Kingsbridge Community College, Arts University Plymouth, the University of Plymouth, and South Devon College to help bridge the gap between education and the creative industries. At Harbour House, our goal is to enrich the lives of people in our community and to engage meaningfully with as many residents as possible.

Opportunities for young people and students to explore creativity are increasingly limited, so we feel it’s vital to provide a platform where new voices and ideas can be seen. By opening the walls of Harbour House Kitchen to student artists, we hope to connect with the wider community while giving young creatives valuable exposure and hands-on experience in exhibiting and curating their work.

The first iteration of our Café Gallery continues the work begun with the Sixth Sense exhibition by Kingsbridge Community College students, which closed in March. We’re also tying the launch to the opening of Tom Kaniok’s exhibition, Mud Makes the Revivalists, in the Harbour House Gallery on Thursday 2 April, 6–8pm. The café will be open to the public after hours so you can see the student photography displayed on the walls, and we’ll have free light refreshments in both the café and the gallery.

Mud Makes the Revivalists explores our relationship with nature through ecology, climate change, memory, and belonging. Over the coming months, we’ll continue working with local students, supporting them every step of the way as they develop and share their work with the community.

We can’t wait for you to visit, discover fresh talent, and celebrate creativity with us!
