The Blue and the Green
and everything between
The House Group
Tuesday 11 - Sunday 16 May 2021
10 am - 4 pm
For nearly ten years The House Group has been exploring environmental concerns through artwork and interactive exhibitions, and The Blue and the Green will offer a retrospective journey through moors, trees and rivers to the coast.
The exhibition will include a range of works in mixed media, photographs and acrylics. Multimedia works include photography and soundscapes, and for this event the group has commissioned a poem from poet Clare Wigzell, The Flow of Everything.
The Blue and the Green draws on the success of earlier exhibitions at Harbour House:
Loving the Beach, 2013; The Magic Forest, 2015; Sea Sense, 2017
Two artists feature in this year’s House Group exhibition: Rod Birtles, photography, and Alison Theaker, printmaking, acrylic and collage. Rod has exhibited his photography in Harbour House Open Exhibitions in 2014-2016, and sold work through the Red Propeller Gallery in Kingsbridge. He is a member of Kingsbridge Camera Club. Alison has exhibited in Harbour House’s Open Exhibitions since 2006. Most recent pieces were inspired by walks along beaches as she completed the South West Coast path.
Past collaborations with Surfers Against Sewage and the National Trust have included activities for children and brought environmental concerns to a wider audience. A significant collaboration at Delamore Arts in 2014 produced an arts trail in the woods, using natural and recycled materials to explore musical themes, and included a giant rain stick, a bathtub marimba and a set of chimes made from old sash weights.
