Hypnobirthing is recognised by the Royal College of Midwives, for a calmer, more comfortable birth.
Hypnobirthing does not advocate any particular type of birth - just whatever is best for mum and baby on the day. By learning the many KGHypnotherapy techniques before the event, subconsciously the woman will feel more in control of her labour, less fearful and the natural hormones will work more effectively (therefore reducing adrenaline and the pain this hormonal conflict can cause). Keeping stress hormones low encourages higher oxytocin levels, which maintains labour and ultimately encourages birth to follow a more physiological path, ie natural birth is then more likely. Hypnobirthing techniques will work in all birth settings. Hypnobirthing does not replace midwifery care but does complement it well, and KGH teacher training courses are accredited by The Royal College of Midwives. The course fully involves the birth partner and as a result they tend to be pleased to have a more defined and useful role at the birth.
Donna Ashton BA(hons) DipHB(KG) is the founder of Confident Birth and Baby Courses. She teaches KGHypnobirthing and also BabyReflex(TM) Courses in Plymouth, Exeter, Kingsbridge & Okehampton. She has a background as a paramedic, and for many years has been an acupuncturist specialising in maternal and pregnancy health. She has had the pleasure of witnessing many babies being born and can testify how much calmer and confident a hypnobirthing mum tends to be.
