A mixed ability class exploring the relationship between drawing and painting. You will be supported to work to your own level of ability. Complete beginners will be offered suggested exercises to build confidence and experience. Intermediate and advanced students will have the option to bring their own ideas to class.
Basic structure:
Weeks 1 & 2 - Drawing to gather ideas and build confidence. You can select to use various materials such as pencils, charcoal, bamboo sticks with ink, water soluble crayons and pencils.
Week 3 - Using drawing and colour work to explore composition. We could use the drawings from previous weeks as our source material.
Weeks 4-6 - make a painting or colour studies based on previous week's ideas.

Please note, this is a flexible course and will be adapted to the needs and interests of the students. If you are new to painting you can discuss with the tutor, which materials to purchase at the first session. If you have attended these courses for a while, you may like to try a new medium such as oil / acrylic / watercolour / gouache.

Suzy is an experienced adult education tutor, having worked for Devon County’s adult learning programme for the last six years. She is also a practising artist, specialising in watercolour, gouache and oils.
