Contemporary Dance Classes with Heather Richmond founder and artistic director of the HeatherWalrondCompany.
The class will be broken down into a warm up and technical exercises, followed by some floor work before working on a sequence. Contemporary is a mix of several dance genres including jazz, lyrical and classical ballet, which produces a fluid and elegant style of dance, yet very physically demanding.
Heather grew up in Devon and went on to complete an apprenticeship in London with Springs Dance Company in 2011 with the opportunity to also train in America. She then graduated from Northern School of Contemporary Dance with a First Class Honours degree in July 2014. She has worked with choreographers including Gary Clarke, Charles Linehan, Balbir Singh, Charlotte Spencer, Corey Baker, Angus Balbernie and Sharon Watson.
After graduating Heather was invited to perform, choreograph and teach with Vou Dance Company in Fiji for four months, touring around Fiji Islands and New Zealand.
She then returned to Devon and founded her own professional dance company HeatherWalrondCompany with Arts Council England funding and developed 'The Rising' which over 3 years has toured all over the UK and Africa. In August 2015, she joined Exim Dance Company as company dancer, became an Assosiate Lecturer and Higher Education Fellow in Dance for Plymouth University. In 2017, she won the Marie McCluskey Dance Award and became the International Projects Project Coordinator for Plymouth Dance. In 2018 she was awarded the Lisa Ullman Travel Scholarship and with The Rising in high demand, HeatherWalrondCompany will tour Internationally throughout 2018/19.
